Description

The IAFF Center of Excellence will be hosting a free, behavioral health training for public safety professionals. Join the IAFF Center of Excellence team for a continuing education training for first responders and peer supporters looking to expand their knowledge about behavioral health issues in the fire service. This training will highlight the most common behavioral health concerns for fire service members including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress and suicide. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the impact of these behavioral health issues and how certain aspects of the fire service occupation are protective and risk factors for developing certain behavioral health conditions. This presentation will include strategies for improving mental well-being and highlights available treatment options to address the needs of first responders. We will also hear from local fire fighters and IAFF Center of Excellence alumni on their experience navigating behavioral health and recovery. This training will be given on 3/30 and 3/31, but will be the same content given both days, so it is recommended participants only register for one or the other.
