Celebrate Nowruz locally with this free, family-friendly event to learn about the holiday's traditions through food, music, dance and more.
The Persian New Year, Nowruz, marks the beginning of spring and is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide.
This year, Councilwoman Yassamin Ansari, the first Iranian-American elected to public office in the state of Arizona, will be hosting the first-ever Nowruz at Phoenix City Hall!
Come celebrate locally by learning about the holiday's traditions through food, live music and dance, art exhibits, speakers from around the world, and more.
It is not a religious holiday but rather a celebration of new beginnings: it promotes values of peace, solidarity, renewal and reconciliation.
Phoenix is one of the most diverse cities in the United States, with a long and proud history of welcoming refugees and immigrants every year. Most recently, Phoenix has become home to one of the largest numbers of Afghan refugees who will be resettled across the country.
Nowruz at Phoenix City Hall will serve to recognize the contributions of diverse immigrant communities and is hosted in partnership with the Arizona Persian Cultural Center and International Rescue Committee (IRC).
