Something besides metal?

To be honest, I'm not completely sure what I'm looking for. I just know I'm bored and I want to do something with music again. I've been in bands, played shows, recorded self produced albums and everything else. I was never really satisfied though. I think I would be open to joining a band again, but the majority of musicians and bands in the bay area want to play genres I don't care for. I'm not into jazz, thrash metal, blues, or hippy coffee shop acoustic stuff. I like straight ahead hard rock, melodic hard rock, stuff that isn't just blast beats and growling vocals that sound like slop or musicians who just wants to play a thousand notes in 8 bars. I play rhythm guitar and bass. I can also play drums but I'm not practiced and I don't own a kit. I have tried my hand at producing music and I have my own mobile recording studio. I downsized my equipment after my last band due to a lack of space, but if I joined or started a new band, getting pro equipment won't be a problem. I also took some music theory classes and have a knack for song writing. I think what I need most is a booster shot of inspiration. I don't like being stuck in a funk. I would like to start a new band, but I would be ok with just a recording project. Something that could help me learn the production process more and get the fire lit again. I made good music in my old band, but I never had the perfect writing partner, let alone a decent vocalist to compliment the music I wrote. Well that's enough rambling for now.
