MILWAUKEE, WI — A man entered the Milwaukee Police District 5 building near MLK Drive and Locust Street around 3 p.m. Friday and shot multiple times at MPD staff, Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said in a news conference Friday. Several community members were inside at the time of the gunfire, and when an officer returned shots, the suspect ran away from the police building, Norman said. Police followed the suspect to 2900 North 6th Street, where officers shot him multiple times, Norman told reporters at the conference. The suspect, a 23-year-old Milwaukee man, was injured, taken into custody and sent to a local hospital. No police officers or others were injured and the suspect's weapon was recovered, according to Norman. Several officers were involved in the shooting of the suspect, he said. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting with the West Allis Police Department as the lead, Norman said during the conference, which several outlets had live-streamed. The incident comes just days after a 20-year-old man died in Milwaukee Police custody at District 5.
