Here are the top three stories today in Madison: A federal grant that would allow the Madison Police Department to hire six more officers has been given initial approval from the city's Common Council. However, the disbursal of the $750,000 grant is contingent upon the City of Madison helping fund the positions. According to Police Chief Shon Barnes, the newly-hired officers would focus on non-custodial children's programming, as well as supporting juveniles who are victims of or witnesses to violent crime. (Channel3000.com - WISC-TV3)Madison police reported seizing three guns, a "large amount" of ammunition, drugs, and cash from a home on Madison's west side on Thursday, Feb. 24. The department's SWAT team had carried out a search warrant at the home on Blackwolf Drive in response to reports of shots fired this past Sunday. (Madison Police Department)The American Kennel Club Dog Show is running through this weekend at the Alliant Energy Center. The event offers people of all ages the opportunity to learn more about various dog breeds, as well as purchase items for their own furry friends. The dog show started this Thursday, Feb. 24 and will run through Sunday, Feb. 27.
