Injured Hiker Rescued By Long Valley First Aid Squad Volunteers

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Long Valley's volunteer first aid squad had an eventful week, that included rescuing a hiker on Monday, according to the squad's chief. The injured hiker was located about one-quarter mile within Hacklebarney State Park, Hagan Sniffen — chief of the Long Valley First Aid Squad — told Patch in an email statement. The unidentified hiker was whisked from within the park by EMS and rescue personnel with Rescue 3, the squad's Polaris Ranger 6X6, which Sniffen called a "pretty standard call" for the volunteer squad. The rescue took approximately 15 minutes, Sniffen said. From there, the hiker was transported to the squad's ambulance, he said. "We do about 15 park/terrain rescues a year," said Sniffen. The volunteer first aid squad also started off that day by transporting a patient to an Atlantic Air Ambulance, with Washington Township Fire Department setting up the landing zone.
