Press release from the City of San Antonio: Monday, February 21, 2022 CONTACT: [email protected] Rudy Arispe: (210) 207-8172 SAN ANTONIO (February 21, 2022) - Metro Health encourages Bexar County residents to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations by getting a booster dose as soon as they are eligible. The booster dose provides extra protection from COVID-19. As of February 2022, less than 35% of fully vaccinated individuals in Bexar County have received a COVID-19 booster dose, according to Metro Health data. The Centers for Disease and Prevention Control refer to "fully vaccinated" as someone who has completed their initial vaccine series and "up to date" as someone who is fully vaccinated and has received any additional doses for which they are eligible. "COVID-19 vaccines offer reduced protection over time against mild and moderate disease, so we encourage you to get a booster dose as soon as you are eligible," Metro Health Director Claude A. Jacob said. "It's important to get a booster dose for extra protection against the coronavirus, including the Omicron variant, so make sure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations." All eligible individuals, 12 years and older, can now receive a booster dose. Eligibility is as follows: Pfizer, ages 12 and older, at least 5 months after completing the initial two-dose vaccine series Moderna, ages 18 and older, at least 5 months after completing the initial two-dose vaccine series Johnson & Johnson, ages 18 and older, at least 2 months after receiving the J&J vaccine To date, 483,034 individuals have received a booster dose in Bexar County. About 1.3 million people are fully vaccinated and currently eligible for an additional dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. To find a COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinic, visit covid19.sanantonio.gov or call 311 and select option 8. The Alamodome Drive Thru Clinic offers the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday. No appointment necessary.
