Press release from Lymphoma 101:
Feb. 25, 2022
Five public relations students from Long Beach University have teamed up with the Lymphoma Research Foundation and The Paul Foundation to educate the public about Lymphoma and how it affects adolescents and young adults in a month-long campaign called Lymphoma 101.
Nearly 90,000 adolescents and young adults (AYAs) are diagnosed with cancer each year, and Lymphoma, the most common type of blood cancer, accounts for nearly 1-in-5 cancer diagnoses among young people. Additionally, young people with Lymphoma face a unique set of challenges related to their diagnosis and treatment:
Delayed diagnosis Limited understanding of the biology and etiology of those cancers which impact this population Low access to and participation in clinical trials Unique psychosocial and supportive care needs Long-term health care concerns, including long-term treatment side effects and secondary cancers Lymphoma 101 has some virtual and in-person events planned for February and March to educate the public about Lymphoma in AYAs and create a platform for those diagnosed.
The campaign is a part of the 2022 Bateman Case Study Competition team. The Bateman Competition is hosted by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Long Beach University competes against schools all over the nation to develop a campaign for a client - this year the client is the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
