SOLON, OH — There could be as many as 133 COVID-19 cases currently in Solon, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health announced. Ohio is seeing a statewide surge in new coronavirus cases. At least 480 new cases were confirmed in Cuyahoga County last week, the board of health said Friday. Currently, there are a total of 4,260 COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County, not including cases in Cleveland. Nearly 1,800 county residents have recovered from the virus. The board of health tracks COVID-19 cases by ZIP code. By that metric, Solon has seen a slight cumulative increase in cases and has between 63 and 133 active COVID-19 cases. Ohio is seeing a surge of new COVID-19 cases statewide. On Sunday, the state saw an increase in new cases, hospitalizations caused by the virus and admissions to intensive care due to the virus. Here's how many COVID-19 cases the state has confirmed per day last week: Monday — 729Tuesday — 590Wednesday — 632Thursday — 892Friday —987Saturday — 817Sunday —854A spike in new cases tends to come before other metrics show similar upward trends.Gov. Mike DeWine said last week that he does not believe an increase in testing capacity is responsible for the surge in new cases. Ohio's positive test ratio continues to hold steady or increase, he said, meaning the virus is more widespread than previously thought.
