I missed your input so I'm looking for some more feedback on a project I'm thinking about for my house from someone with design sense. I'm going to be replacing some porch columns and am thinking of having each column constructed of two 2.5 inch square steel tubes with a 6 or 8 inch flat panel separating them. I'd be putting colorful porcelain or glass tiles on both front and back of the panel and would be inset from the edges of the tubes. In other words they wouldn't be flush with the edges. The panel would stop one foot from the top and bottom of the columns. In my mind it looks cool, but may not end up looking so hot in reality. So before I take that step, anyone have a take on it?
