Tour new museum exhibits and play a new, interactive video game from PBS; free admission and lunch for educators. 60 spots only!
This immersive kick-off event provides an exciting opportunity for educators to learn about some incredible, Wisconsin-based learning opportunities for students. The day will start with a tour of the Door County Maritime Museum and its many new exhibits in the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower. You’ll get in ahead of the usual weekend crowd to take your time exploring all the museum has to offer. After that, the PBS Wisconsin Education team and Door County educator Mike Scoville (Gibraltar Schools) will take you behind the scenes in the making of an educational video game called The Legend of The Lost Emerald. Strategies for activating this standards-aligned resource with your students will be shared, offering a playful and compelling way to engage in historical inquiry and critical thinking skills. We will connect, imagine the possibilities for your classrooms, and brainstorm ideas together over lunch. Join us as we discover the treasure-trove of stories and learning that is right here in our community.
The content of the event is being presented with upper elementary and middle grades teachers, library media specialists, and tech integrators in mind; that said, all educators are welcome to attend. The video game itself is geared for grades 4-6. The event is free of charge but has a limit of 60 educators, total. Registrations are first come, first served, and include museum admission and lunch, so sign up today!
