Afghan Cuisine and Refugee Benefit Dinner
An estimated 667,900 Afghans have been newly displaced since January 2021. When refugees flee their homes, they leave family, friends and all their possessions to start from zero in a new country. Ahmad Jawed Sayed Zada and his family fled Afghanistan last August and were resettled here in Portland in October 2021. Jawed worked as a cook for American Forces in Afghanistan and dreams of one day opening an Afghani restaurant in the U.S. This dinner is an opportunity for Jawed to share his love of Afghani cuisine with his new community while raising funds to help his family make a fresh start and bring him closer to fulfilling his American dream. All proceeds from this dinner will go to Jawed and his family.
