SOLON, OH — As the world mourns the passing of longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, Solon officials remember the time their city was featured on the show.
In 2011, contestants were faced with the answer: "The Cuyahoga County city of Solon, in this state, boasts its own orchestra, a large tax base and great schools." The answer, of course, was "What is Ohio?"
It was a small moment in the grand scheme of Jeopardy! history, but a fantastic reminder that even briefly-lived connections can bond a show, its host and an entire community of people.
Trebek's death, first reported by TMZ Sunday morning, was later confirmed by Jeopardy! via its Twitter account. He died Sunday morning in Los Angeles. He was 80.
Trebek was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2019.
He was the host of Jeopardy! from 1984 until his death, winning several Emmy Awards for his role on the show.
