Description
Students from Discovery Isle Preschool in San Marcos recently delivered more than 80 food items to nonprofit organization Meals on Wheels. Over the past month, students held a schoolwide drive to collect various nonperishable food items. At the close of the drive, students packed and delivered the items to the Meals on Wheels San Diego County office, where they went on a tour of the facility and learned more about how their contributions will help families in need. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of giving back to their community.
It is the mission of Meals on Wheels to support the independence and well-being of seniors. For many seniors, the organization can be the difference between remaining in their own homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence.
