From the City of Oakdale: Posted on: January 10, 2020 With the recent news coverage about pollution levels in drinking water in East Metro communities, we have received questions from citizens about the status of the drinking water in Oakdale. In 2006, a water treatment facility was constructed at the Oakdale Public Works campus. The plant uses large granular activated carbon (GAC) filters to remove PFCs from the water. Testing by the Minnesota Department of Health shows that GAC filters remove contaminants to levels that fall within state and federal drinking water standards, which means it is safe for consumption. The treatment facility treats the water from two of the city's wells, which provide enough capacity to supply normal winter day water demands. The city has three other wells with no detection or levels below the allowable thresholds of PFAS, which can supply normal summer day water demands.
