STAMFORD, CT — A 15-year-old Stamford boy is facing several charges after police said he shot a 21-year-old man on Hope Street on Feb. 13. The teen, who lives in the Glenbrook area, was arrested Feb. 24 and charged with first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. The juvenile was sent to juvenile detention in Bridgeport to await arraignment in court. On Feb. 13 around 1:50 p.m., police said they responded to a call of someone shot near a commercial property on Hope Street, but all people involved, including the victim who was wounded in the buttocks, fled the area before officers arrived. Officers were able to find the victim's vehicle driving at a high rate of speed on Summer Street, and they made contact and escorted him to Stamford Hospital for treatment, police said. Police said an investigation showed that the victim had confronted another juvenile over an unknown disagreement, and then the 15-year-old shot him. Investigators used witnesses and video evidence to identify the 15-year-old, police said. This latest arrest comes during a time when there's been an uptick in juvenile crime, the SPD said. After the arrest of a Stamford juvenile who pleaded guilty to one count of felony murder last week, Capt. Richard Conklin of the SPD said the department is working on a number of initiatives to curb juvenile and violent crime.
