Press release from Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services, Inc.: Feb. 25, 2022 President Patricia Katebini and the Board of Directors of Laurel Advocacy & Referral Services, Inc (LARS) are thrilled to announced that Shannon Mouton has been selected as the new Executive Director (ED.) She begins her role on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. The appointment was made after an extensive local and national search and selection process. Shannon comes to LARS with more than 20 years of experience in strategic planning, development, partnership collaboration, and political work. Most recently, she was an interim Executive Director and a founding Board member of a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that provides STEM, arts, and athletic programming to underserved Black and Latino youth in DC. She has also worked with Calvary Women's Services, as well as Catholic Charities USA, professionally and as a volunteer. The Board believes her extensive background will bring support for all of LARS' programs, internal departments, and the development of its staff. The Board publicly thanks Mark Huffman, who served as acting Executive Director, and the LARS staff, who ensured client services and programs continued to operate at the high-level clients have come to expect. The Laurel community remained informed on the pressing issues facing constituents as the pandemic continues to affect the most vulnerable populations. "Shannon is the proven leader we need in this moment to carry our mission forward," said Huffman. "I want to say a huge thank you to all those who have continued to support LARS with their time, talent, and treasure through the interim period. LARS' assistance with food and shelter for families in Laurel has never been more needed, and we have risen to meet that challenge – but we could not do so without our generous donors!" LARS' mission is to enable homeless and low-income people in Laurel (Maryland) who are in crisis to achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
