Rep. Malinowski Comments On Russia-Ukraine Crisis, Praises Biden

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Democratic Congressman Tom Malinowski appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday and commented on the current Ukraine situation, as well as President Biden's decision to enforce sanctions on Russia. Serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and having recently visited Ukraine as part of a bipartisan delegation, Malinowski spoke on Good Morning America and praised Biden for issuing sanctions on Russia amidst its invasion of Ukraine. "I think President Biden ... got a good start announcing some very serious sanctions on Russian banks, on Russian sovereign debt," Malinowski said. "In the next few days I expect them to roll out more sanctions on these Russian kleptocrats whose kids party in Miami and who buy up real estate in London and they're living it up with the money they stole. That's going to sting." Biden announced new sanctions on Thursday, which includes export blocks on technology — an action that he said aims to severely limit Russia's ability to advance its military and aerospace sector. He also applied sanctions on Russian banks and "corrupt billionaires" and their families who have close ties to the Kremlin. Malinowski said the best thing Congress can do at this time is to remain united, despite bipartisan divisions. "It's [about] talking to the American people and to the world with a single voice," Malinowski said. "We do need to stand by Ukraine, ... what Russia's doing is a threat." On Twitter, the Congressman expressed that he doubts anything could have stopped Russian President Vladimir Putin from waging war. Malinowski also said on CNN Tuesday that it is more likely the sanctions will weaken Russia's capacity to carry on with its aggression, rather than deter Putin from continuing to invade Ukraine.
