Wedding Cake Bite TikTok Video Leaves Couple Angry At NJ Venue

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A couple says they are angry with the management at Clarks Landing Marina in Point Pleasant over the venue's response to a TikTok video showing a worker taking a bite out of their wedding cake, according to a report. TikTok removed the video twice, NJ.com reported, but as of Thursday afternoon it had been reposted on the social media app, along with a screenshot of headlines about the incident. "The famous cake video that made it to the news," the woman, Justine Gargano, wrote in the caption on the reposted video. The NJ.com report said the video initially was captioned "this is what happens to your leftover wedding cake." The first posting accumulated 800,000 views, and the second, posted in January, got 3 million, the report said. Andy and Desiree Hanson, who live in Ohio, according to a PennLive report, first saw the video a few days after their wedding and TikTok removed it at their request, the report said. The couple told NJ.com they wanted an apology and a partial refund for the leftovers, and expressed frustration that the workers were not fired over the incident. It is a longstanding tradition for couples to keep the top tier of their cake; many times it's frozen for a one-month or one-year anniversary celebration. Brides.com includes a suggestion for any remaining leftovers: "Offer slices for your guests to take home as an extra treat. If it hasn't yet been sliced, wrap it up and bring it to brunch the next day as a surprise dessert for those guests who are still in town." The Hansons received the top layer but not the rest of the leftovers, which Clarks Landing manager Michael Longhi told NJ.com the venue's usual procedure. Desiree Hanson, in the NJ.com report, said she was particularly upset because of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Gargano, contacted through social media, told Patch the worker was biting into leftovers. "It was literally going into the garbage," Gargano said. "It was a 3 tier cake. That (video) was after every single person including the bride and groom were served." Gargano and the woman seen in the video biting the cake no longer work at Clarks Landing, Longhi said, according to the report.
