Bolingbrook's Traditional Christmas Winter Walk Returns This Year

BOLINGBROOK, IL – The village is bringing back its Winter Walk this year amid the pandemic. Located behind the Town Center, the walk kicked off with a virtual ceremony Saturday and will now be open to the public through Jan. 10 between dusk and 10 p.m. every day. "It's important this year to bring joy and a sense of normalcy in these unprecedented times," Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta said. Visitors are encouraged to socially distance themselves from one another. For the virtual ceremony, Basta was joined by the Village Trustees as well as the 2020 Citizens of the Year in a mini parade illuminating the walk. Families can experience the holiday magic of the lights snuggled in the comfort of their own home by watching the ceremony that was streamed live on the Village of Bolingbrook Facebook page. Whether it's a stroll down Candy Cane Lane, or around a Christmas tree, or up on the rooftop of the gingerbread man's house, visitors will be walking in a winter wonderland with plenty of opportunities for family pictures to be taken. Additional events, including a visit from Santa and giveaways for the kids, will be announced via social media. Not only does the walk boast a magical display of lights, many local organizations are highlighted on the trees they decorated. Members of the Indian, Pakistani, Latino, Filipino, and Muslim communities also volunteered to decorate a tree representing their unique holiday traditions. "One of our community's greatest strengths is our diversity," Basta said. "We are proud to displaydifferent traditions and celebrations all year, and especially in this holiday season."
