HIGHLAND PARK, NJ — A man who police were chasing through the streets of Highland Park Wednesday morning has been apprehended and charged by police.
Jakil Bryant, 28, of Highland Park, was wanted by the Highland Park Police Department in connection with a shooting that occurred in an apartment in the borough on Feb. 15.
Police say Bryant shot a handgun at a family member, in the presence of two small children, during an argument. No one was injured by the gunshot and Bryant fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
On Wednesday morning, Highland Park patrol officers observed Bryant in his parked car on the 200 block of Magnolia Street. As officers approached him, he fled on foot, leaving behind a handgun that was recovered at the scene.
Detectives from the Highland Park Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, along with members of the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit and United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Task Force, located and arrested Jakil Bryant without incident at 12:10 p.m. later that same day, in Dayton in South Brunswick Township.
Bryant is charged with the following: Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm, Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; Unlawful Possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
