MORRISTOWN, NJ — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train causing NJ Transit's Morris and Essex Line to be suspended for about an hour on Thursday night, according to NJ Transit. The man was killed by Morris and Essex Line train 674 at about 8:46 p.m., said Jim L. Smith, a spokesperson for NJ Transit, in an email statement to Patch on Friday. There were no injuries to two passengers on the train or crew members, with New Jersey Transit Police leading the investigation, he said. The train departed Dover at 8:26 p.m. and was expected to arrive to Hoboken at 9:46 p.m., said Smith. The announcement was made about the suspension of the Morris and Essex rail service between Madison and Dover at about 9:03 p.m. with a man hit by Morristown, the company reported. An update was provided at 9:44 p.m. that the rail service suspension was continuing between Madison and Dover, because of a pedestrian fatality. At 10:01 p.m., NJ Transit announced the service was resumed but there were up to 60 minute delays as a result of the incident. The man's identity was not disclosed as of Friday morning, to notify his family, according to NJ.com. This is a developing story. Patch will provide more information as it becomes available.
