Press release from the Urbandale Community School District: February 25th, 2022 On February 17, 2022, Urbandale Singers, the premier choral ensemble at Urbandale High School (UHS), delivered a featured performance for choral directors throughout the Midwest region during the Midwestern American Choral Directors Association (MACDA) biennial conference. Students performed at the Harris Theater—a 1,500-seat state-of-the art performance venue—in Chicago. The choir was selected to present a featured performance following a double-blind audition process. Urbandale Singers was one of only 16 choirs from the 10-state region to be selected to perform. They were part of an impressive contingent of six choirs representing Iowa. "After the challenges faced by all involved in the performing arts over the past 23 months, we feel so fortunate to have this opportunity," said UHS Director of Choirs Ted Brimeyer. "The choir's program, entitled 'Rise,' was crafted as an offering to all those who keep music alive during periods of darkness and despair." Urbandale Singers consists of 55 students in tenth through twelfth grades who are involved in numerous athletics and activities. Students are selected to the choir by rigorous audition including solo singing, sight-reading and tonal memory. The choir performs a diverse body of repertoire from the Renaissance to Contemporary Eras while emphasizing healthy singing technique and advanced music literacy. Urbandale Community School District congratulates the Urbandale Singers for their dedication to performance excellence resulting in numerous honors and awards, including an invitation to perform during this renowned conference. Thank you to our UCSD general, instrumental, and vocal music teams who make these extraordinary experiences possible. Well-done! We are #proudofU!
