Here are the top three stories in Franklin today: Kurt Winstead of Franklin has officially made his bid for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District. Winstead, a retired National Guard brigadier general, has served on and led numerous boards and local civic clubs. (Franklin Patch) A driver was rescued in Williamson County Thursday morning after his vehicle was swept into high floodwaters. A School Resource Officer with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office saw a red van in floodwaters on his way to work. The SRO instructed the driver to stay with the vehicle until first responders could get close enough to throw him a rope and pull him to safety. The SRO said the area is prone to flooding but no road closed signs were in place. No additional information was immediately released.
