Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Jeri Karges, your host of the Sacramento Daily. First, today's weather: Mostly sunny. High: 60 Low: 28. Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento: The 'Mardi Gras Meets Carnival' throwdown on Feb. 26 aims to be an all-out extravaganza of live music, family activities, cocktails and New Orleans and Brazilian food indulgence. Put on by "Louisiana Sue" Ramon, a Sacramento resident who grew up on the outskirts of the Crescent City in Chalmette, it incorporates everything from joyous street dancing to powdered beignets and bowls of bubbling gumbo. The action Saturday kicks off with the Mardi Gras Free Family Street Fest, which happens on K Street between Front and Second streets. The next part of the afternoon is the Big Mardi Gras Party, a ticketed event for 21 and older. It will be at Old Sacramento's "Freeway Gardens" parking garage next to the tunnel and Pony Express statue – and it runs from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Separate but connected to Louisiana Sue's events on Feb. 26 is The Curiosity Collaborative's City of Trees Parade, running between 5 and 7 p.m. The parade will begin at 9th Street and Capitol Mall and and end on 2nd Street in Old Sacramento. (SN&R) The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the 6000 block of South Land Park just before 4 a.m., fire officials said. Two adults were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after they jumped off a second-story balcony to escape the fire, officials said. The investigation into the cause of this fire is underway. (ABC10)Federico García of Gusto Gaucho will soon be sharing a generational recipe in the heart of Sacramento, after winning the 2021 Calling All Dreamers competition. The Calling All Dreamers prize includes $20,000 in cash along with services and resources valued at $120,000 to help launch the small business and set up Federico for success in downtown Sacramento. García has been operating at farmers' markets and catering events. His new café in downtown Sacramento will offer empanadas, pastries, and other Argentine goods.
