Happy Saturday, Sacramento! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note. First, today's weather: Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 63 Low: 41. Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today: Sacramento's Pheng Lor recently became the first Hmong to finish the Ultraman endurance race after completing the Ultraman Florida. An Ultraman endurance race covers 321 miles over three days featuring a 6.2-mile swim, 261.4-mile bike ride and finishing with a 52.4-mile run. (Ugh...) "All I could think of was one step at a time, one step at a time and keep going, keep pushing," Lor said. But his biggest test is yet to come, as he recently qualified for the Ultraman World Championships on the big island of Hawaii. "I was so happy, I was dancing around my bedroom." (KCRA3) Sacramento restaurateur and chef recently made HUGE news for being named a semifinalists for the 2022 James Beard Award in the best California chef category! Localis co-owner and executive chef, Chris Barnum-Dann is a humble warrior in the food business. He loves his native Sacramento and says he's not interested in opening any other restaurants, so if you want to taste his wonderful "small bites with big flavor" you'll have to get yourself to Localis. I've tried it, by the way, and the food (and drinks) is phenomenal! (Good Day Sacramento) "If you've heard the song, 'Streets' by Doja Cat, or the song 'Iffy' by Chris Brown, then you've heard the work of Blaq Tuxedo — a music producing pair of brothers from Sacramento," Dominique Logan said. "We broke our first Hot 100 Billboard with Doja Cat and we back on the Hot 100 with 'Iffy' with CB." The Grammy-nominated duo doesn't just produce music, they're also singers and songwriters. The brothers were born and raised in Sacramento and attended for a time, Capital Christian School, which is where they did one of their first public performances. Fifteen years of hard work later, and now living in LA, they've now worked with some of the biggest names in music including Ariana Grande, John Legend, Brandy, Ty Dolla Sign and E40. "It's fun, it's a journey at the end of the day we love what we do and it doesn't feel like work. We are just reaching our goals," Dominique said. Goals that include releasing their own album! Blaq Tuxedo's first album is coming out this Spring. (KCRA3)Shannon McCabe is getting ready to connect her hometown to the Crescent City for Mardi Gras. She's more ready than ever to host her annual Mardi Gras Masked Ball at Harlow's. The event goes down Saturday, March 12 at 6 p.m., with a Second Line parade around Marshall Park preceding it at 5:30 p.m. That marching madness ends with a welcoming voodoo ritual inside the club. Tickets can be found here. In addition to the music and costume-heavy vibes, McCabe will also be bringing in rare and one-of-a-kind vendors, including Mardi Gras-themed makeup providers, pastie designers and candle and soap-makers. McCabe says that adding genuinely inventive vendors is another crucial element to the ambiance everyone involved with her galas is trying to pull off. (SN&R)The General Manager of Round Table Pizza, located at 5110 Laguna Blvd., appeared on the show, "Undercover Boss," a show about C-Level executives who go undercover to their stores in an effort to engage with employees, on Friday Feb. 25 on CBS. Former chief executive officer, Paul Damico of Global Franchise Group (now acquired by Fat Brands, Inc.) went incognito disguising himself as a new hire in order to work on the front line of the restaurant's daily operations. Steve Trillas, general manager of Round Table Pizza, has been with the company for the past 17 years. When asked about his role when it comes to training new employees, he described himself as being very hands-on. "At one point we talked about my journey in life," said Trillas. I look back at myself, and how far I've come from my upbringing to where I am now. It was eye-opening. It made me proud of myself!"
