ST. CHARLES, IL — As the Blue Goose Market in St. Charles prepares to close, discounts are underway on items throughout the store. After 94 years in St. Charles, the owner of the Blue Goose Market in St. Charles announced earlier this month the beloved store will be closing. Blue Market first opened in 1928 and is known by local residents as "The Goose." Rumors of The Goose closing have been circulating in recent weeks before Paul Lencioni, owner of the Blue Goose Market, confirmed the news on Feb. 11. "The Blue Goose has given St. Charles everything it has to give," he said in a video message posted Friday on Facebook. As of Thursday, discounts between 20 and 40 percent were underway throughout the store as part of the Goose's farewell sale. All produce, dairy, meet and alcohol was 20 percent off; chips, snacks, deli items, frozen foods, health and beauty, pet food and pop, water and juice was listed at 40 percent off, according to an update from the Blue Goose Market. Floral and bakery items are 30 percent off, according to the Thursday update. Lencioni said during his Feb. 11 announcement that the grocery store, at 300 S. 2nd St., is expected to close in "weeks, to maybe a month or two." While he didn't give an exact date for the store's final day he said the Goose will likely be closed by summer.
