District 28 Appoints New Principal For Meadowbrook School

NORTHBROOK, IL — Meadowbrook School students will soon be seeing a new face in the halls. Ericka Garza will be the next principal at the Northbrook school following the District 28 Board of Education's approval on Feb. 22. According to the district, there were 40 applications and nine candidates interviewed in the first-round interviews with administrative team members. That list was then narrowed down to three candidates and they were interviewed by school administration as well as the staff interview and parent interview teams. RELATED: District 28 Prepares For Mask-Recommended Schools Garza will begin as the new Meadowbrook principal on July 1 following Patrick Thome's retirement. Garza is currently principal of Mark Twain School in Kankakee District 202, completing her fifth year. Previous to that, she was the English Learner program coordinator at Marquette School of Excellence in Chicago. She began her career as an EL Teacher for grades 4-8. She has a master's degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University and is working on her doctoral degree from the University of St. Francis.
