DUBLIN, CA — The City of Dublin has published answers to a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding the East Ranch project, a plan to build 573 units along Croak Road that was approved by the Dublin City Council in December after a nearly four-hour public hearing. The controversial plan will build 573 mostly single-family homes on 165 acres off of Croak Road and north of Central Parkway. The community would include two parks of more than 11.5 acres, 72 affordable housing units scattered throughout four of the six neighborhoods, and nearly 6 acres of open space. Central Parkway would be expanded and Croak Road would be widened to accommodate the community. Local artists would be commissioned for ranch-inspired art installations. Plans also include a $3 million investment in stormwater treatment facilities. Residents expressed concerns on traffic, overburdened schools, heritage trees, water availability, noise levels, and more. Despite a 3-2 Planning Commission vote, the Dublin City Council approved the plan unanimously. A referendum was submitted to overturn the Council's decision on the Stage 2 development plan. (The initial Stage 1 Development Plan for the property was approved by the City Council in 2005.) If the petition is able to gather 3,400 signatures - or 10% of registered Dublin voters - in a 30-day period, it will be certified and go to the City Council. The City Council will determine whether to repeal the ordinance approving the Stage 2 Development Plan, or call an election. The website provides the city's answers to the following questions: What is the East Ranch Project? What is a Stage 2 Development Plan? What is a referendum and what does it do? What happens if the Ordinance for the Stage 2 Development Plan is repealed or rejected by Dublin's voters? What would be the difference between the approved East Ranch project and a Housing Accountability Act project?
