Knauer Picked As A Pima County Superior Court Commissioner

TUCSON, AZ —Pima County announced Thursday that Nicholas Knauer has been appointed as a commissioner for the county's superior court. Knauer will take over in Division 52/B for Alyce Pennington, who recently retired. Knauer currently is the assistant attorney general assigned to the Tucson office and is a supervisor in the Protective Services Section representing Arizona's Department of Child Safety. According to Pima County, Knauer's practice is grounded in juvenile law-based matters, including: dependency, adoption, mental health, family law, probate and guardianship cases. Knauer also is the Attorney General's Office's primary liaison with the Pima County Juvenile Court's Dependency Alternative Program (DAP), which seeks legal arrangements that provide safety and stability for a child and their family. Previously, Knauer was a deputy public defender with the Adult Dependency Unit of the Pima County Public Defender's Office, he spent three years as a staff attorney with the Pima County Office of Children's Counsel and he served as a Pima County Superior Court judge pro tempore. "Nick Knauer is an exceptionally bright and talented attorney," said Pima County Presiding Judge Jeffrey Bergin. "We expect he will be a strong and positive addition to the bench and that he will serve Pima County with honor and dignity." Knauer graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona with a BA in political science and earned his law degree in 2011 from UA's James E. Rogers College of Law. Recently, Knauer was appointed to the Board of Directors of Arizona's Asian American Bar Organization.
