Company Description Canopy Farm Management provides tree planting and management services to farmers and landowners in the Midwest. We establish perennial crops, timber plantings, conservation practices, and integrated agroforestry systems. We combine expert staff, thoughtful design, and a mobile fleet of state-of-the-art farm equipment to cost-effectively establish and manage profitable, diverse, and resilient agroecological systems. We are launching operations with hubs in Champaign, IL and Spring Green, WI. Position Overview The Farm/Restoration Technician will work as part of a team to establish and maintain perennial agroecological systems. This is an outdoor, field work position. This will involve driving company trucks, towing trailers, operating tractors with a wide range of implements, operating a range of other specialty equipment and tools, collecting data, troubleshooting equipment, working with a variety of landowners, and performing manual field work. This position reports to the IL Hub Manager, Eric Wolske, and will include job-based training. Position Details Hours: Full-time. Work weeks will generally run from Monday to Friday, but will occasionally shift into weekends if required by the weather. Daily start/end times will be set seasonally to avoid inclement weather. Occasional overnight travel will be required. Location: This position will be based out of our IL hub at 2801 Gemini Ct. Champaign, IL 61822. Daily work will occur across Central IL, with travel via company vehicles. Start Date: March 1, 2022 Salary: $40,000-$50,000, subject to annual review for possible increase Benefits: Health insurance offered via a QSEHRA reimbursement plan. Full-time employees are eligible for stock options in the company. Requirements: ● Ability to lift 50 pounds ● Ability to work outside, long hours, in challenging conditions ● Commitment to participating in an open and collaborative environment ● Willingness to work independently with strong self-direction ● Strong communication skills ● High school degree, or equivalent ● Valid driver's license Ideal candidates will have: ● Familiarity with perennial agriculture or habitat restoration ● Experience in farming, landscaping, forestry, or other field-based jobs ● Mechanical or carpentry skills ● Preference for candidates willing to grow with the company Primary Responsibilities Responsibilities will vary substantially by season, but will primarily include: ● Plant trees & seed ● Install tree tubes & weed mats ● Apply fertilizer & herbicides ● Mow & weed ● Monitor nut/fruit ripeness ● Harvest fruit & nuts ● Prepare soil: till, disc, subsoil ● Prune plants ● Scout for pests & diseases ● Operate chainsaws ● Monitor & repair irrigation systems ● Maintain & repair equipment ● Manage inventory ● Receive & manage tree shipments ● Collect biometrics data from trees ● Survey & layout new plantings ● Clean & organize shop/offices ● Maintain comprehensive field log
