Description

The Art Deco Society of California's 36th annual Art Deco Preservation Ball, celebrating the urban glamour of the jazz age! Note: After many delays, we are thrilled to present this event! (It was originally planned in 2019 for May, 2020. ) Ticket orders purchased previously will be honored. Be transported to San Francisco's jazz age, in architect Timothy Pflueger’s Stock Exchange Tower “Lunch Club” (now the City Club of San Francisco). When it first opened, Depression, Prohibition and the cares of the day were forgotten in this lush urban oasis, and it still provides a magical escape. Our ball re-imagines the urban glamour of San Francisco, circa 1930: Join us on the 10th and 11th floors, in a beautifully preserved interior embellished with bas reliefs, etched glass, metalwork and sculpture, and crowned by Diego Rivera’s glorious fresco, his first US work. This was once a space reserved for wealthy, privileged (and male) stockbrokers, and it is still a functioning private club -- but on this occasion, we can all enjoy its elegance. For one special night, we will inhabit this luxe environment, with dancing to the authentic Jazz Age arrangements of the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra; special guest vocalist Dandy Wellington flying in from New York; delightful entertainment by the Decobelles; 1930s music by Sara & Swingtime; and a fabulous silent auction of special treasures. And of course, our stylish guests – YOU – dressed in vintage or period-inspired formal attire of the 1920s – 1940s – the golden age of glamour! The evening features dancing, light refreshments, and a no-host full bar. Please plan to dine beforehand.
