Description

Join the Norman Bird Sanctuary as we learn all about the Backyard Invaders that can impact our yards and gardens this spring. As spring approaches, learn how to identify invasive and native plants on your own property and understand how best to encourage or manage them. Led by Landscape Architect, Karen Barbera, and Norman Bird Sanctuary garden volunteer, Melissa Welch, this Fireside Program includes a guided walk around our historic gardens and trails. Following the walk, warm up with a hot toddy and join us for a fireside lecture in our Mabel’s Studio. About the Speakers: Melissa Welch is a native of Middletown who draws on 30 years of experience working for the federal government. A member of the Middletown Conservation Commission, Welch is researching and exploring options for effective management of Japanese Knotweed in our community. Karen Barbera is an award-winning horticulturist and the principal designer and owner of Inspired Design, a full service landscape design/build firm based in Middletown.
