BATAVIA, IL — Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have opened an investigation into the death of a worker who was killed Monday after being trapped under a lawn mower in a Batavia pond, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle. Police and paramedics were called around 9:05 a.m. Monday to the 900 block of Moorehead Drive after the man went into the pond, according to the Batavia Police Department. He was pulled to land by police, paramedics and his co-workers, but it is unclear exactly how long he was underwater, police said. He died Monday at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, according to police. Police have not yet released the man's identity, but he worked for West Chicago-based Waldschmidt and Associates, OSHA officials told the Kane County Chronicle. The Kane County Coroner's Office is set to conduct an autopsy Wednesday.
