Description

Homework Hotel -- SRU volunteers will assist Broad Street School children in grades K-4 with thei homework and other educational enrichment. This program takes place from 3:30-5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children are provided dinner followed by academic enrichment activities and homework help. Volunteers are responsible for assisting students with school work in a variety of subject areas. Volunteers will utilize school-identified academic enrichment activities to further the children's development in specified academic areas Our goal is to provide a steady stream of volunteers for this program through the end of the SRU academic year. To provide consistency for the children, while respecting the time commitment of SRU student volunteers, we have structured this service opportunity into 'sets' which are comprised of 3 consecutive weeks on either Tuesdays or on Thursdays. SRU volunteers will depart SRU no later than 2:50 pm and can expect to be back on campus by 5:45 pm. Up to 4 SRU students will be able to volunteer for any given set. One of the volunteers will self-select as the driver for the group. A gas card will be provided to the driver. The dates for each set are listed below. Spring 2022 Tuesday Sets: Set 1: Feb 22-March 8 Set 2: Mar 22-Apr 5 Set 3: Apr 12-Apr 26 Spring 2022 Thursday Sets: Set 1: Feb 24-March 10 Set 2: Mar 24-Apr 7 Set 3: Apr 14-Apr 28 The date you choose to register for is the 1st day of your set and you will be expect to attend for 3 consecutive weeks (end date noted above for each set). As the children will look forward to seeing you, we ask that if you know you are unable to attend a session within a particular set that you do not select that set. Obviously, unforeseen things happen and you may need to miss a session. In that case, you will notify the Institute's Homework Hotel volunteer coordinator who will notify the school as well as the set driver. The Institute must have a copy of YOUR completed clearances on file BEFORE you are formally assigned to a set by the Institute.
