MEDFORD, MA — Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn has named former city engineer Timothy McGivern the next Department of Public Works commissioner in Medford. McGivern has been in the role in an acting capacity since November, following the retirement of Brian Kerins. He was formally offered the position last week after the opening was listed for two months. "I'm thrilled for the opportunity to serve as the leader of the Medford DPW," McGivern said in a statement. "I'm excited to continue working with this great team dedicated to bringing public works services to the community of Medford. I am also excited to find where I can contribute my unique skills to the improvement of those services." McGivern previously served as the city engineer for more than three years. "As the city engineer, Tim implemented and advanced many great policies and procedures and has transformed some city operations to meet the needs of a modern community," Lungo-Koehn said in a statement. "Tim has a focus on data-driven management, customer service, and creating more efficiency wherever possible." McGivern assumed the full-time role on Feb. 22.
