BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke has enacted a curfew for the city, which will run from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Schielke signed an executive order Tuesday night, after protests and looting in Aurora, Naperville and other cities. The executive order states that a peaceful protest planned to start at noon Wednesday outside Batavia City Hall "has the potential to attract hundreds of protesters and may attract … people with the intention of rioting and causing damage as they have in other local communities over the last several days." Police Urge Businesses To Close Wednesday Due To Planned Protest Schielke's order also states there is a potential for a counter-protest Wednesday and threats of violence were made on social media.
