HAMDEN, CT — A massive fire that displaced about 60 residents and tore through an apartment complex on Warner Street started in the pantry closet of one of the units, according to officials.
The Hamden Fire Marshal's Office along with representatives from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigations Unit joined insurance investigators for a collaborative investigation at 42 Warner Street on Wednesday, according to Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.
All of the complex's units were significantly damaged in the fire on Feb. 14.
Dolan said the investigation found that the fire started in the pantry closet of one of the units.
"Inside the small closet was a mini freezer," Dolan wrote in a news release. "The mini freezer was plugged into an extension cord that was plugged into a wall outlet inside the closet. The mini freezer was the only item plugged into the outlet. No other sources of ignition were noted in the closet."
