Danbury Schools Delay Mask Decision Until March

DANBURY, CT — The Board of Education has elected to wait until next month before deciding whether to make masks optional in Danbury Public Schools. The decision to not take up the matter until the next regularly scheduled meeting on March 23 was presented at the start of a meeting Wednesday night by board chair Rachel Chaleski. Factors that contributed to the decision included a previously scheduled vaccine clinic for children aged 5-11 which would enable them to be fully vaccinated by Mar. 22, and insufficient guidance issued by the state Department of Public Health. There will be another meeting of the Policy Committee on Mar. 16 to discuss the future of the mask mandate, before a recommendation id made to the full board. "We understand that at time like these, emotions run high, and we all want what's best for our kids," Chaleski said.
