CA Officer Saves Man In Wheelchair Stuck On Railroad Tracks

LODI, CA — A man in a wheelchair was rescued by a police officer Wednesday morning — with mere seconds to spare — after he became stuck on railroad tracks with a train rapidly hurtling toward him in Lodi, a small city in California's Central Valley, according to authorities. "Officer Urrea was in the area of Lodi Avenue and the railroad tracks when she saw a male in a wheelchair who appeared to be stuck on the tracks," the Lodi Police Department said. "She noticed that the railroad crossing arms started to come down and saw that a train was approaching." Urrea jumped from her patrol car, and, in the nick of time, pulled the 66-year-old out of his wheelchair as they both landed safely off the tracks, on the ground and feet away from the oncoming train, police said. In the ordeal, the man suffered a leg injury, which was treated by Officer Delgado, who later assisted at the scene, and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said. The video above, captured on Urrea's body-cam, shows the dramatic save. "Officer Urrea risked her own life to save another and her actions prevented a tragedy," the agency said.
