Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Dealing Arrest

By John Gibson, WNIN February 24, 2022 An Evansville man faces numerous drug-related charges after being pulled over by police. Indiana State Police say a trooper stopped the driver of a pickup truck for driving left of center and not wearing a seat belt on Louisiana Street near Mary Street Monday evening. The driver stopped on Read Street near Florida Street and was identified as 62-year-old Brian Ellis. The ISP says Ellis displayed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. They said Ellis also refused to submit to a chemical test. An Evansville Police K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics inside Ellis' vehicle. Troopers searched the vehicle and say they found about 190 grams of methamphetamine and an electronic scale. They said Ellis was also in possession of prescription pills and a loaded handgun. Ellis was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he's being held without bond. He faces charges including Dealing Meth, Possession of Meth, and Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
