JOLIET, IL — One driver was rushed to St. Joe's hospital Thursday afternoon by a Troy Township ambulance as Will County Sheriff's deputies investigated a crash that wrecked a house in the 1100 block of Rooney Drive, right off Black Road.
The crash in the Murphy Acres subdivision happened at 1:19 p.m., according to Troy Township firefighters.
Nobody was home at the time. One neighbor told Patch she saw the crash, and she estimated that the racing cars were traveling at least 50 mph along the neighborhood street.
She said the two cars were racing down Rooney Drive and one of them lost control. She said the second vehicle remained on the scene for a few seconds, but then sped away before she could obtain the license plate.
The car in the wreck drove across the front lawn of two other houses before crashing through the living room, coming to a rest in the homeowner's garage.
Debris from a fender was found by one of the neighbors a few houses away.
NICOR was on the scene Thursday to make sure all the utilities were disconnected and Will County Building Division officials put a red sticker on the house, deeming it uninhabitable.
At 5:45 p.m., a Troy Township fire captain told Patch he had not received a condition report from St. Joe's on the person taken to the hospital.
