PORTLAND, OR — Ron Wyden just finished his 25th year representing Oregonians in the United States Senate. When he was first elected he made a promise – which he has repeated every campaign – that he would host a town hall meeting for the residents of each of Oregon's 36 counties every year. Not only has he done that, Thursday afternoon, Wyden will be hosting his 1,000th county-wide town hall meeting over the past quarter-century. The meeting will take place at 2:30 p.m. While it's intended for the residents of Lane County and the agenda is expected to be focused on issues of importance to residents there, any Oregonian will be able to watch the meeting online. "It's my privilege to represent Oregonians in every one of our counties," Wyden said, adding that, "I chose Lane County because it's where I first fell in love with our state five decades back as a law student at the University of Oregon." Because of the pandemic, Wyden has had to switch things up a bit. His first 970 town halls were in-person in each county. The next 29, Wyden was in each county but did the town hall virtually because of COVID-19-related restrictions. As those are still in place, Wyden's Lane County meeting will also be virtual. It was also be his 1,000th. He starts on the next 1,000 on Friday at noon for resident of Multnomah County. That will also be available for viewing online.
