Press release from the PurplePTSD: K. Joudry 2022-02-23 Most folks know The Draft Network for, well, their draft coverage. A recent TDN piece, though, offered some suggestions for players the Vikings may consider in free agency. First, the basic list of players they include: A couple names of this list – Corbett and Okoronkwo – have been covered by yours truly here on Purple PTSD. Anyone who follows my writing on here (there has to be one or two of you, right?) knows that I'm enthusiastic about adding pass rush help. Okoronkwo comes from a similar defensive system who could be had cheaper than the Von Miller/Chandler Jones tier of edge rushers. Corbett, moreover, just seems like such an incredible fit. Like his defensive counterpart, Corbett would be coming over from the Rams. He'd instantly upgrade the RG position, one of the worst parts of the Vikings roster. Take a look at what Justin Melo has to say in his TDN piece about why Corbett makes sense for the Vikings: Amen. Now, I do have some disagreements. Melo suggests that Harrison Smith will be cut, which is very unlikely to happen. A couple days before Kevin O'Connell's opening presser, I explored why a Smith cut would make some sense. However, K/O's presser should eliminate any uncertainty here. Smith will be back in purple. If Jackson is brought in, it'll be as a replacement for Xavier Woods. The Gage prediction seems largely predicated on the assumption that Adam Thielen is a goner. We ought not assume it's a complete guarantee he's gone: Obviously, Thielen's massive cap hit needs to be addressed. The upside is that he recognizes where the team is at financially and is excited about the leadership. My hunch is that he'll restructure things to stick around town, but I'll admit it's only a guess. A receiver room with Justin Jefferson, Thielen, and K.J. Osborn offers plenty of upside (especially with Irv Smith Jr. coming back). It's Smith Jr.'s impending return that makes Gerald Everett seem like a luxury the team won't afford. Marcedes Lewis, a tremendous blocker, makes more sense. The Fuller prediction is one that ought to intrigue fans. Like edge rusher, the corner position needs a ton of help. If they can't land a true #1 corner, then perhaps they pivot toward accumulating 3 or 4 CB2s. Fuller, depending on the price, makes a lot of sense. This press release was produced by the PurplePTSD.
