BARRINGTON, IL — Workers at nursing homes across Illinois, including those at Alden Estates of Barrington, issued a 10-day strike notice Monday warning operators of a possible unfair labor practice (ULP) strike on Friday, May 8 if the Illinois Association of Health Care Facilities refuses to agree to a contract amid the coronavirus pandemic. According to a Monday news report from SEIU Healthcare Illinois — the union representing state nursing home workers — the master association contract expires Thursday. "Workers from all across the region and state have spoken out that we are not being given proper PPE (personal protective equipment), training, immediate reporting of Covid-19 cases and communication by management with staff, as well as longstanding crises of short staffing, poverty wages, and unable to access paid sick time without punishment," SEIU HCII stated, in the news release.
