TEMPE, AZ —Tempe police announced Wednesday that an arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that took place early Saturday morning near Hermosa Drive and McClintock Drive.
The collision resulted in the death of 23-year-old Cole Descheny, police said.
Hector Duarte, 19, was arrested on Tuesday for leaving the scene of a collision causing death and tampering with evidence in connection with the incident, according to a Tempe Police Department spokesperson.
In addition to detaining Duarte, the TPD said detectives were able to locate the vehicle — a Chevy Camaro— that the suspect allegedly was driving on the night of the fatal collision. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired at the time of Duarte's arrest, police said.
According to police, at approximately 4:41 a.m. on Saturday, Descheny was crossing McClintock Drive at Hermosa Drive when he was struck by a Camaro that was traveling northbound. The vehicle then fled the scene.
Cole was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing, according to the TPD. The department also thanked the public for assisting in the investigation up to this point.
