EL CERRITO, CA — CVS Health announced Monday that beginning immediately, the drugstore chain will "waive charges for home delivery of prescription medication," including from locations in El Cerrito, Richmond, and nearby cities. "With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging people at higher risk for COVID-19 complications to stay at home as much as possible, this is a convenient option to avoid coming to the pharmacy for refills of prescriptions," CVS said in a news release. "Being committed to the welfare of those we serve means being responsive to evolving needs and acting swiftly. This is particularly true in times of uncertainty," said Troyen Brennan, executive vice president and chief medical officer of CVS Health, in a news release. "The latest steps we're taking will help ensure patients of all ages have every option available to them when it comes to filling prescriptions." The announcement comes in the wake of many health insurance companies — such as Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, UnitedHealth Group and the nation's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans — announcing steps to reduce barriers for Americans to be tested for the new coronavirus. In many cases, the health care insurers said they were waiving out-of-pocket costs for tests surrounding the coronavirus. CVS has more than 9,900 locations nationwide. — Patch editors Gus Saltonstall and Bea Karnes contributed to this story Also See: Grand Princess Docks In Oakland; Passenger Quarantines FollowAdorable East Bay Goat Finds A New HomePelicans At The Reservoir: Photos Of The Day
