RICHMOND, CA — A 42-year old inmate from Antioch died Saturday in an apparent suicide inside his jail cell at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, according to authorities. Gregory Lynds was found unresponsive with a bed sheet wrapped around his neck at about 6:15 p.m. by a deputy, who was escorting a mental-health clinician to speak with an inmate, Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesperson Jimmy Lee said. Deputies and jail medical staff provided life-saving measures until an ambulance and the fire department arrived, and Lynds was later pronounced deceased at the scene, he said. The case is being investigated as an apparent suicide by the sheriff's department and the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office. Lynds was arrested Oct. 2 by the Antioch Police Department on suspicion of two felony counts of elder abuse (likely to produce great bodily harm or death), two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, a parole violation and battery on a peace officer, Lee said.
