Description

Help collect and identify macroinvertebrates from the Cedar River to help monitor the river's water quality! Little Forks began monitoring the water quality of the Cedar River back in 2015 and with an increase in restoration projects and land protection along the watershed, we have documented positive changes in the quality of the river. We will meet at Gladwin City Park at Pavillion 1 to review the protocol for the day and divide into teams. We will sample six sites along the Cedar River in both Gladwin and Clare counties to collect macroinvertebrates, animals without a backbone that can be seen with the naked eye. After collection, we will reconvene at the Pavillion for lunch! Using the specimens found in the river, we can determine the quality of the water. This is done on ID nite where volunteers can help identify the collected specimens. ID nite will take place on Monday, May 16th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Little Forks office in Midland (125 McDonald St, 2nd floor).
