KANE COUNTY, IL — The coronavirus pandemic claimed 31 more lives in Kane County during the first week of December, public health data shows. That weekly death toll is nearly twice as high as it was over the previous seven-day span (Nov. 24-30), when 16 COVID-19 deaths were recorded, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Thirty-four were recorded in Kane County between Nov. 14 and Nov. 20, which was the county's deadliest week since mid-May. More than 56 percent were linked to long-term-care facilities, which have reported 261 total COVID-19 deaths.
